About The Position

The University of Miami is seeking an Assistant Professor of Clinical in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, specializing in Thoracic and Cytopathology. This faculty position involves patient care services, educational activities, research, and quality assurance within the Department of Pathology. The role requires maintaining high professional standards to ensure departmental accreditation.

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. degree.
  • Board Certified or Board eligible in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, or both.
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Florida.
  • Strong general knowledge in Surgical Pathology including intraoperative evaluations, and Pathology Subspecialties including hematopathology, anatomic pathology and laboratory Medicine.
  • Ability to enhance communication and relations in a diverse professional work force.
  • Experience with methods, tools and measurements for quality improvement to improve work processes using a team-based model.
  • Knowledge of regulations and standards of JCAHO, CAP and CLIA.
  • Ability to work independently and make reliable recommendations and diagnoses.
  • Knowledge of hospital and service procedures and policies regarding hazardous material management, biohazard exposure and the use of universal precaution.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care services at UMH, JMH, satellite locations, and SCCC and satellites.
  • Perform gross description, take photographs of specimens when indicated, tissue sampling, and microscopic examinations of surgical specimens.
  • Report findings and verify coding diagnoses in the computer in a timely manner.
  • Perform Frozen Section diagnoses in a timely manner.
  • Perform and report autopsies in a timely manner.
  • Provide 24-hour call coverage according to assigned division/s.
  • Participate in educational activities for pathology residents, fellows, and medical students.
  • Participate in collaborative research opportunities (basic/clinical or applied research) and seek sponsored programs funding.
  • Participate in daily quality assurance and in Department of Pathology hospital committees and working groups.
  • Maintain high standards of professional services to ensure JCAHO/CAP/CLIA accreditation.
