About The Position

This position is for an Assistant Professor of Clinical in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, specializing in Microbiology (Clinical). Requirements

M.D., D.O., or PhD
Board Certified in Clinical Pathology or Board Certified in a Clinical Pathology subspecialty, OR a PhD who is fellowship trained and with professional Board or Certification for their subspecialty (i.e., hematology, immunology, chemistry and microbiology).
Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Florida OR possess a Laboratory Director’s license in the State of Florida in their subspecialty (i.e., hematology, immunology, chemistry and microbiology).
Strong knowledge in general Laboratory Medicine (Clinical Pathology), and in the subspecialty of practice.
Ability to enhance communication and relations in a diverse professional work force.
Experience with methods, tools, and measurements for quality improvement to improve work processes using a team-based model.
Knowledge of regulations and standards of JCAHO, CAP, and CLIA.
Ability to work independently and make reliable recommendations and diagnoses as definitive in the care and treatment of patients.
Knowledge of all hospital and service procedures and policies regarding hazardous material management, biohazard exposure, and the use of universal precaution.

Responsibilities

Follow CLIA regulation.
Ensure testing systems provide quality services in all aspects of test performance (preanalytic, analytic, and postanalytic phases).
Ensure physical and environmental conditions of the laboratory are adequate and appropriate for the testing performed.
Ensure the environment for employees is safe from physical, chemical, and biological hazards and that safety and biohazard requirements are followed.
Ensure a general supervisor (high complexity testing) is available to provide day-to-day supervision of all testing personnel and reporting of test results, as well as on-site supervision for specific minimally qualified testing personnel when they are performing high complexity testing.
Ensure sufficient numbers of appropriately educated, experienced, and/or trained personnel are employed by the laboratory to provide appropriate consultation, properly supervise, and accurately perform tests and report test results.
Ensure new test procedures are reviewed, included in the procedure manual, and followed by personnel.
Ensure each employee’s responsibilities and duties are specified in writing.
Ensure that all delegated responsibilities are performed.
Be accessible to provide on-site, telephone, or electronic consultation.
Ensure that remedial actions are taken and documented.
Make certain that personnel are trained to ensure accurate results.
Ensure that an approved procedure manual for the clinical laboratory is available.
Maintain JCAHO/CAP/CLIA or other relevant accreditations as applicable.
Participate in the educational curriculum in clinical pathology for residents, fellows, and medical students.
Participate in utilization of laboratory testing or services.
Develop and participate in Diagnostic Management Teams.
Be academically productive with scholarly activities.
