Assistant Professor of Chemistry-Tenure Track
About The Position
Sweet Briar College is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Chemistry to begin in August 2026. This role involves teaching a range of chemistry courses and laboratories, including General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Physical Chemistry, as well as upper-level courses based on expertise. The position also includes teaching in the Leadership Core Curriculum and supervising undergraduate research projects. The ideal candidate will be an engaged scholar-teacher with a strong commitment to undergraduate education and a passion for working across disciplines.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in chemistry or related field.
- Applicants who are ABD will be considered if degree completion is expected by August 2026.
- Demonstrated teaching experience.
- Demonstrated potential and interest in undergraduate research.
- Demonstrated interest in working across disciplines and engaging in collaborative scholarship, teaching, and service.
- Excellent communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Teach a variety of courses and laboratories contributing to STEM degree programs, including General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Physical Chemistry.
- Teach one or more upper-level courses based on program needs and candidate expertise.
- Teach courses in the Leadership Core Curriculum (general education).
- Guide, direct, and supervise undergraduate research projects.
