About The Position

Stetson University seeks an Assistant Professor of Biology. This is a full-time, 9-month position beginning in August 2027. The university is looking for a dedicated teacher-scholar who will excel in teaching, mentoring undergraduate research, and conducting scholarly work. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in a biological science with a research focus in Marine Biology, and ideally, postdoctoral experience. Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching, the ability to mentor undergraduate research, and a publication record are essential. A strong commitment to innovative teaching, academic advising, and engaging students from diverse backgrounds is also desired.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in a biological science (earned by August 2027) with a research focus in Marine Biology.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduates.
  • Ability to mentor undergraduate research projects.
  • Record of scholarly publication in their field.
  • Strong commitment to innovative teaching and academic advising of undergraduates.
  • Experience or interest in engaging students from diverse backgrounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Postdoctoral experience is strongly recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Teach five regular courses and one student-centered immersive experience annually as part of the Hatter Ready initiative.
  • Teach upper-division courses for the Aquatic and Marine Biology major, such as Marine Ecology.
  • Teach introductory biology courses.
  • Mentor capstone senior research projects.
  • Pursue a vibrant research program, with opportunities to develop a marine and coastal research program through collaborations with Stetson’s Institute for Water and Environmental Resilience.
  • Provide academic advising for undergraduates each semester.
  • Engage in university service and/or leadership commensurate with rank.
