About The Position

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of New Mexico (UNM) School of Medicine invites applications for one tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level. Candidates that bring innovative approaches to studying fundamental problems related to the Department's key focus areas are encouraged to apply. Areas of interest include metabolism and metabolism related diseases, including gastrointestinal disorders, cancer, aging, obesity, and type 2 diabetes. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a dynamic research program and aggressively pursue extramural funding. In addition, successful candidate will be expected to excel at undergraduate, graduate and medical school-level teaching while contributing to student success through mentoring and research training. Using innovative and modern pedagogy, the successful candidate will be expected to progressively contribute to the Department's teaching mission that incorporates both classroom and laboratory training of undergraduate, graduate and medical students. The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is an actively growing department committed to training and fostering the career development of junior faculty. These faculty are expected to join the next generation of researchers performing multidisciplinary and collaborative research (basic and translational) that will address the health issues facing the state and the nation. The Department has an established reputation for using innovative methods to achieve teaching excellence, and maintains a nationally recognized, ASBMB-accredited undergraduate biochemistry program. The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is part of the School of Medicine and is located in the UNM Health Sciences Campus, which also includes the College of Nursing, the College of Pharmacy, and the College of Population Health. The School of Medicine delivers high-quality comprehensive patient care and education and cutting-edge biomedical science to the people of New Mexico and beyond. There are over 1,200 faculty members at the UNM School of Medicine contributing to UNM's rich intellectual and collaborative environment. The UNM Health Sciences Center is the State's principal biomedical research center and offers state-of-the-art research facilities and shared resources. The UNM Health Sciences Center includes multiple centers, a Clinical and Translational Science Center, an NCI designated Cancer Center, Centers of Basic Research Excellence (CoBRE) for Autophagy, Inflammation and Metabolism (AIM), Metals in Biology and Medicine (CMBM), Center for Brain Recovery and Repair (CBRR), Center for Molecular Discovery, and other centers and programs. These Centers provide infrastructure and productively serve as an intellectual hub for the study of metabolic diseases.

Requirements

  • Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree in biomedical sciences.
  • Three years post-doctoral experience.
  • Peer-reviewed research publications in the past three years.
  • Teaching or mentoring experience.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
