About The Position

The College of Fine Arts and Communication at Towson University invites applications for a tenure-track, 9-month Assistant Professor position in the Film, Audio, Media Arts Department. The preferred start date is August 2027. Towson University is a public university located north of Baltimore, Maryland, with over 19,000 students. The Film, Audio, Media Arts Department is the largest and most comprehensive media and film department in Maryland, offering rigorous education in film and media production. The department has over 400 majors and minors and will be moving into a newly renovated facility in academic year 2027-2028, which will include state-of-the-art studios and classrooms.

Requirements

  • Master of Fine Arts or doctorate degree in audio and media production, or a related field, received by June 2027.
  • Demonstrated expertise in digital audio workstation software.
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following: studio sound recording and mixing, sound design for visual media, podcasting and/or radio production.
  • Demonstrated success in teaching, or demonstrated potential to teach audio production, audio studio, and/or audio broadcast courses at the undergraduate level.
  • A demonstrated record of related scholarship/artistic research/professional activity.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Avid’s Pro Tools.
  • Experience with audio over internet protocol (AoIP) systems, particularly Audinate’s Dante network.
  • Additional specialties in multimedia production, live sound production, sound-based installation and media art, or sound theory and aesthetics.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 6 classes over a 9-month academic year (3 per semester) with undergraduate class size averaging 20 students per class.
  • Teach foundational audio production courses for both audio and film-focused students, as well as intermediate and advanced courses focusing on specific aspects of audio production utilizing recording and mixing studios.
  • Develop new courses in the candidate’s area of expertise and interest.
  • Undergraduate advising.
  • Scholarly/artistic research productivity.
  • Service to the department, college, and university.
  • Leadership of student organizations that produce media content.
