The Department of American Culture and Society at the University of Alabama is seeking a dynamic scholar for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position, beginning Fall 2027, with expertise in American Studies. The successful candidate will join the Department of American Culture and Society as a tenure-track faculty member. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, maintaining an active research agenda, and performing professional service appropriate for the rank and position. The department was formed in January 2026 by merging the Departments of Gender and Race Studies and American Studies. It offers BA and MA programs in interdisciplinary fields and serves over 11,000 students annually. Graduates of the MA programs frequently pursue PhDs at top-tier institutions, work in successful non-profit organizations, or complete advanced professional degrees. This is an interdisciplinary department that fosters collaboration through writing groups, seminars, and a speaker series. The regular teaching load is two courses per semester, with competitive salary and benefits.
