About The Position

The College of Fine Arts and Communication at Towson University invites applications for a tenure-track, nine-month Assistant Professor in Advertising position within the Department of Mass Communication. The preferred start date for this role is August 2027. Requirements

  • Ph.D. in strategic communication, mass communication, advertising, or a related field.
  • ABD applicants will be considered, but appointment will be at the Instructor rank, and all doctorate degree requirements must be completed by February 1, 2028.
  • Demonstrated success or potential to teach advertising courses at undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Demonstrated potential to develop a strong body of scholarship.

  • A teaching effectiveness portfolio that includes a teaching philosophy, potential or demonstrated evidence of teaching effectiveness

Responsibilities

  • Teach six classes over a nine-month academic year, with undergraduate classes averaging 20 students and graduate classes averaging about 15 students.
  • Teach undergraduate courses such as Advertising Copywriting, Advertising Media Planning, Principles of Advertising, Advertising Campaigns, or other advertising-related subjects.
  • Teach graduate courses that may include Qualitative/Quantitative Research Methods in Communication, Social Media Content Strategies, Social Media Analytics, Communication Theory, Consumer Psychology, or other areas aligned with the candidate's scholarship and expertise.
  • Integrate emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), into teaching and research relevant to advertising and strategic communication to contribute to the department's strategic priorities.
  • Potentially develop or teach courses that bridge advertising and sports communication.
  • Advise undergraduate students.
  • Supervise graduate student theses or professional projects.
  • Engage in scholarly research productivity.
  • Provide service to the department, college, and university.
