About The Position

Oxford College of Emory University invites applications for a tenure-track position in 19 th -century Global Anglophone Literature at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in August 202 6 . We seek candidates who hold a PhD in 19 th -century global A nglophone literatures, who demonstrate innovation and excellence in undergraduate teaching, and whose research interests include one or more of the following: race and empire; theories of diaspora; environmental studies; translation; cultural studies; literature of migration, travel, and displacement; visual culture; or transnational feminisms. We also seek candidates with a robust scholarly trajectory and a commitment to mentoring undergraduate research . We are additionally interested in candidates who se teaching and scholarly interests intersect with other disciplines (for example: medicine and literature, law and literature, or science and literature) to meet the high demands of our many students who seek to pair the study of English literature with careers in health, law, business, and science. The successful candidate will teach 6 English courses a year, including First Year Writing , First Year Discovery Seminar , a nd upper-level literature courses in areas of their expertise .

Requirements

• A PhD in 19 th -century global Anglophone literatures or related field completed by August 202 6
• Ability to teach to non-majors within liberal arts setting
• Commitment to undergraduate education

Nice To Haves

• Candidates with experience teaching undergraduate literature courses , especially to non-majors, as well as first year writing/composition courses, and/or experience involving undergraduates in collaborative work are particularly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Teach 6 English courses a year, including First Year Writing, First Year Discovery Seminar, and upper-level literature courses in areas of their expertise
• Mentoring undergraduate research
