About The Position

The Mechanical and Industrial Engineering department seeks a new full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor Mechanical Engineering - Aerospace. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate engineering courses and labs, engaging in professional development activities, and providing services to the department and the university. The department is seeking candidates with the ability to teach in at least one core area of mechanical engineering. In addition, special consideration will be given to candidates with demonstrated ability and interest to develop and teach aerospace-focused courses in any combination of areas, including but not limited to Aerodynamics, Aerospace Propulsion, Flight Dynamics and Control, Space Systems, and Aerospace Structures. This is a full-time, benefit-eligible position with a 9-month academic appointment starting fall 2027. The salary range for this position is $76,000 - 80,000, commensurate with experience. Requirements

  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a closely related field, earned by the start date of the position.
  • Ability to utilize pedagogies that are proven to increase students’ engagement and retention.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Record of professional development, or willingness to develop in areas related to teaching, research, or scholarly work.
  • Ability and interest in teaching/developing courses in aerospace related systems.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching undergraduate courses in Mechanical Engineering in different modalities.
  • Creation of two or more technical elective courses that may lead to the creation of an aerospace engineering emphasis area or minor.
  • Participation in curriculum development, academic assessment, and professional development.
  • Undergraduate research and scholarly activities.
  • University/community service.
  • Serving as academic advisors.
  • Working with colleagues across campus in cross-disciplinary collaborations outside the classroom.
  • Opportunity to teach graduate level courses as part of our online MS Engineering program.
