About The Position

The Department of Gender and Women’s Studies at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is seeking a tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor in the field of feminist environmental studies. We welcome scholars whose work approaches environmental justice through the lens of legal studies, public policy, science and technology studies (STS), critical race studies, ethnic studies, feminist studies, or related interdisciplinary fields. We seek a scholar whose teaching and scholarship applies feminist decolonial, intersectional and/or critical race approaches to the study of extractivist economies, climate crisis and ecological destruction, and/or environmental justice. Preference will be given to scholars whose work centers marginalized, racialized or global South communities including their experiences, epistemologies, and struggles around environmental inequality. Community-engaged or applied scholarship is especially welcome. In addition to teaching, the position requires weekly office hours, attending faculty meetings, participation in assessment of student learning, and service to the department, college, and university. The successful candidate may be required to teach on weekdays, evenings, weekends, and/or online and will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department in which he/she/they is/are housed for recommending tenure and promotion. Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Gender and Women’s Studies, Environmental Studies, Science and Technology Studies, Public Policy, Legal Studies, Critical Race Studies, Ethnic Studies, or related fields.
  • Earned doctorate from an accredited institution by the start date.
  • College or University-level teaching experience in-person and/or online.
  • Evidence of research in feminist environmental justice studies, such as conference papers, peer reviewed articles, policy documents, etc.

  • Evidence or clear potential for excellence in teaching general Gender and Women’s Studies courses and courses on Feminist Environmental Justice.

  • Experience using culturally responsive pedagogy that leads to equitable outcomes for all students.
  • Experience creating a student-centered learning environment.
  • Experience in or potential for adopting inclusive approaches to mentoring.
