Requirements

  • Master’s degree (Doctorate, Ph.D. preferred) in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Law, Law Enforcement / Corrections or Public Safety related discipline and two (2) years of Crime Scene Investigations or Forensic Science; or Master’s degree and 18 graduate semester hours in combination of the following qualifying fields: Criminal Justice, Criminology, Law, Law Enforcement / Corrections, or Public Safety related fields and two years of Crime Scene Investigation or Forensic Science.
  • Recent experience working with contemporary strategies in the criminal justice system
  • Ability to deliver high quality instruction in a range of criminal justice, crime scene courses, legal, ethics, penology, and criminal behavior courses
  • Willingness to make students active partners in the teaching/learning process
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population
  • Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written are essential
  • Computer literacy and experience using technology in the classroom
  • Willingness to apply technology and innovative approaches to teaching

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience in a college or other post-secondary institution
  • Prior experience teaching at the baccalaureate level
  • Research and/or publications in the discipline useful to classroom instruction
  • Experience in distance learning instruction

Responsibilities

  • Duties and responsibilities associated with teaching a minimum of 36 semester hours annually
  • Prepare a syllabus and outline for each course
  • Instruct assigned classes
  • Grade all quizzes, tests, and written assignments
  • Assign final grades and delivering grades and grade justification sheets personally to the IRSC main campus
  • Develop and maintain course management and internet shells
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to meet with students
  • Cooperate in departmental budget preparation and in course planning and development
  • Assist with departmental projects and programs
  • Serve on at least one Faculty members College committee
  • Travel to branch campuses as needed to fulfill teaching requirements
  • Work collaboratively with the department to develop new courses and labs
  • Complete all other duties and responsibilities as assigned
