JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision, this position delivers high-quality instruction in Criminal Justice Academic area, with emphasis on crime scene investigations, legal studies, ethics, penology, and criminal behavior. Responsibilities include maintaining accessible office hours, mentoring students through co-curricular organizations, and supporting student recruitment and retention. The role also involves meaningful community service, active participation in college and departmental committees, and collaboration with the Dean of Public Service Education to advance program and institutional goals.

Requirements

• Master’s degree (Doctorate, Ph.D. preferred) in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Law, Law Enforcement / Corrections or Public Safety related discipline and two (2) years of Crime Scene Investigations or Forensic Science; or Master’s degree and 18 graduate semester hours in combination of the following qualifying fields: Criminal Justice, Criminology, Law, Law Enforcement / Corrections, or Public Safety related fields and two years of Crime Scene Investigation or Forensic Science.
• Recent experience working with contemporary strategies in the criminal justice system
• Ability to deliver high quality instruction in a range of criminal justice, crime scene courses, legal, ethics, penology, and criminal behavior courses
• Willingness to make students active partners in the teaching/learning process
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population
• Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written are essential
• Computer literacy and experience using technology in the classroom
• Willingness to apply technology and innovative approaches to teaching

Nice To Haves

• Minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience in a college or other post-secondary institution
• Prior experience teaching at the baccalaureate level
• Research and/or publications in the discipline useful to classroom instruction
• Experience in distance learning instruction.

Responsibilities

• Duties and responsibilities associated with teaching a minimum of 36 semester hours annually
• Prepare a syllabus and outline for each course
• Instruct assigned classes
• Grade all quizzes, tests, and written assignments
• Assign final grades and delivering grades and grade justification sheets personally to the IRSC main campus
• Develop and maintain course management and internet shells
• Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to meet with students
• Cooperate in departmental budget preparation and in course planning and development
• Assist with departmental projects and programs
• Serve on at least one Faculty members College committee
• Travel to branch campuses as needed to fulfill teaching requirements
• Work collaboratively with the department to develop new courses and labs
• Complete all other duties and responsibilities as assigned
