About The Position

The Department of English in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in the field of Global Anglophone Literature and Postcolonial Theory. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2027.

Requirements

  • Earned a PhD in English or a closely comparable discipline with a specialization in South Asian, Middle Eastern, Caribbean, and/or Black Diasporic Literature and postcolonial theory, or a related area, by time of appointment or shortly thereafter.
  • Demonstrated record of excellence in both teaching and research.
  • Research excellence demonstrated by a record of publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals or other venues meeting high international standards, the submitted research statement, the writing sample, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements from referees of high standing.
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier (including the required materials outlined below) and strong letters of reference.
  • Teaching and research skills demonstrated in the context of interviews and during an on-campus scholarly presentation.
  • Provide a cover letter.
  • Provide a current curriculum vitae.
  • Provide a research statement outlining current and future research interests.
  • Provide a recent writing sample (e.g., article or book chapter).
  • Provide a teaching dossier, including a teaching statement, sample course materials, and teaching evaluations.
  • Provide the name and contact information of three references.
