About The Position

The Department of Mathematics & Statistics at the University of North Dakota (UND) is seeking an assistant professor of statistics. This is a 9-month, tenure-track position contingent on funding. The successful candidate will contribute to the department’s undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as its scholarly and service missions. The department, housed in the College of Arts & Sciences, offers BS in Mathematics, MS and MEd in Mathematics, and MS in Applied Statistics. It is one of the largest departments at UND, with 28 faculty serving thousands of students annually. UND, established in 1883, is North Dakota's oldest research university with very high research activity, offering degrees in over 225 fields and enrolling nearly 16,000 students. Located in Grand Forks, ND, UND is a vibrant college town known for its quality of life.

Requirements

Earned PhD in Statistics, Applied Statistics, Biostatistics, Mathematics (with an emphasis in statistics), or Data Science (with an emphasis in statistics) by August 15, 2027.
Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
Verification of identity and eligibility to work in the US
Completion of the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.

Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in statistics
Advise and mentor undergraduate students
Advise and mentor graduate students; direct graduate theses and independent study projects
Establish a productive research program, such as through publication in peer-reviewed outlets and/or seeking extramural funding to support individual and collaborative projects.
Serve as a catalyst for attracting and supporting graduate students in the MS in Applied Statistics Program.
