About The Position

Emory University Department of Rehabilitation Medicine is seeking a motivated, PMR-qualified physician to lead an academic inpatient rehab team caring primarily for neurologically diagnosed patients, servicing a major stroke center in metro Atlanta. As a full-time Assistant Medical Director, Emory Rehabilitation Hospital, in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, you would be a member of the PM&R service providing care to general physiatry and cancer rehabilitation patients. As the Physical Medicine Specialist, the successful candidate will provide PMR coverage for patients on the inpatient rehab unit, of 10-15 patients. Outpatient coverage for a general physiatry clinic 2 days/ week. Inpatient consultation for EUH and Emory Midtown Hospital 2 days/ week. Provide resident oversight for inpatient and outpatient management of physical medicine and rehabilitation patients. The majority of this time will be in direct patient care, but appropriate time will be allocated for completion of notes and other administrative duties directly related to patient care. You will be expected to devote between 1% and 25% of your total professional effort to scholarly activities. In keeping with the School of Medicine Guidelines for Appointment, Promotion and Tenure, you are expected to participate in scholarship, which may include authorship of manuscripts, participation in research studies, abstract presentations, professional blogs, and other scholarly activities. You will be expected to devote between 1% and 25% of your total professional effort to teaching. In keeping with the School of Medicine Guidelines for Appointment, Promotion and Tenure, you are expected to participate in teaching, which may include occasional lectures, small group and bedside teaching, preceptorship, and mentorship. You will be expected to devote between 75-100% of your total professional effort to professional service.

Requirements

  • Candidate must have an MD or DO degree
  • A license in GA
  • Be board-eligible in PMR at the time of appointment

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical services 5 weekdays, with 4 hours per week allocated for administrative time to complete notes, orders, messages, etc.
  • Provide night and weekend call coverage at Emory Rehabilitation Hospital for an estimated 2-3 weeks per year.
  • Perform Process Improvement activities as directed by the Medical Director.
  • Participate in Committee membership and participation as directed by the Chair and the Medical Director.
  • Provide supervision and teaching of residents, fellows and other trainees.
  • Allocate effort to providing general physiatry and cancer rehabilitation services.
  • Provide PMR coverage for 10-15 patients on the inpatient rehab unit.
  • Provide outpatient coverage for a general physiatry clinic 2 days/week.
  • Provide inpatient consultation for EUH and Emory Midtown Hospital 2 days/week.
