About The Position

The Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and UPMC is seeking general internists to serve as Assistant Professor Clinician-Educators. This role involves patient care and teaching medical students and internal medicine residents in both outpatient and inpatient settings. The division is known for its strength in both clinical research and medical education, offering faculty development, mentorship, and internal funding for education projects. Clinician-Educators often receive compensation for non-clinical efforts in curriculum development and teaching at various educational levels (UME, GME, CME). The division is actively involved in promoting diversity and equity in academic medicine and medical education and prioritizes helping faculty and trainees achieve their professional goals.

Requirements

  • MD or DO candidates.
  • Board eligible or board certified in Internal Medicine.
  • Three or more years of experience (for Assistant Professor, non-tenure track).
  • Demonstrated teaching ability.
  • Experience in advanced study and research, or professional experience to make an academic contribution.

Nice To Haves

  • Fellowship or other advanced training in medical education.
  • MPH or MS in medical education (or similar).
  • Chief residency.
  • Significant teaching experience.
  • Interest in focusing efforts on practicing primary care, women's health, or addiction medicine in an academic setting.

Responsibilities

  • Patient care in outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Teaching medical students and internal medicine residents.
  • Developing and teaching curricula.
  • Running educational programs at the UME, GME, and/or CME levels.
  • Limited evening or weekend hours in addition to weekdays.
  • Telemedicine services.
  • Outpatient calls on evenings and weekends (phone coverage) typically once per month.
