About The Position

This role involves practicing clinical medicine in an exemplary manner, developing and maintaining a clinical consultative practice, and providing physician staffing for the Genitourinary Medical Oncology Center. The position requires completing patient documentation, corresponding with physicians regarding patient care, and working within a team environment. Additionally, the role includes administrative activities such as serving on committees, engaging in clinical research and scholarly activity, and providing an educational program for medical fellows and residents. Service responsibilities include representing the department in various matters, staying current with medical approaches, requesting consultations, serving as a role model, and providing peer review.

Requirements

Doctorate-level degree in a field appropriate to faculty role and department mission
Licensed to practice in Texas
Board certified (or obtained within departmental timeline), unless exempted
At least 5 years’ post degree experience with any combination of time as a clinician, clinical scientist, or GME trainee.
Appropriate post medical doctoral training for discipline
Capable of providing complete and thorough history and physical patient examinations.
Must be able to perform invasive procedures as dictated by the physician's subspecialty.
Must be able to work within a context of intense interpersonal relationships including other physicians, patients, and subordinates.
Requires the ability to synthesize a myriad of information pertaining to the area of research.
Requires verbal interaction with colleagues and walking to meeting locations throughout the campus.
May require traveling to sites outside of the Houston area and, upon return, disseminating the information obtained or learned by sharing with department colleagues verbally or in writing.
Requires listening to and assimilating information from the conferences.

Responsibilities

Practice clinical medicine in an exemplary manner in standards set forth by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners, and the American College of Physicians, properly balanced with other academic activities.
Provide complete and thorough history and physical patient examinations.
Perform invasive procedures as dictated by the physician's subspecialty.
Develop and maintain a clinical consultative practice for patients referred to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
Provide physician staffing for the Genitourinary Medical Oncology Center at a level commensurate with that which would be provided by other physicians with the same level of training and experience.
Visually review for proper ICD-10 and CPT coding and approve all charge documents within 48 hours.
Complete patient documentation for medical records within time frames provided by institutional policy.
Correspond as appropriate in writing or in telephone conversations with physicians regarding patient care and treatment.
Serve on institutional and hospital committees as requested.
Actively engage in clinical research and scholarly activity to enhance the academic environment and mission of the Department.
Develop programs of clinical research and scholarly activities in keeping within the goals of the Department.
Provide a balanced and integrated educational program in Genitourinary Medical Oncology for medical fellows and residents who rotate through the Department.
Attend and participate in Division/Department teaching and continuing education conferences.
Represent the Department of Genitourinary Medical Oncology in local, regional, state, and national matters pertaining to the field of Genitourinary Medicine.
Keep abreast of current approaches in the management of patients through attendance at continuing education conferences in the specialty.
Request appropriate consultations for patients by phone conversations or in writing to other physicians.
Provide a role model as a practitioner for faculty, fellows and residents and students.
Provide peer review for assessing the clinical practice of faculty within the Department.
