About The Position

The McGill University Department of Medicine, Division of Rheumatology in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time Contract Academic Staff position as a Clinician-Teacher at the rank Assistant Professor (clinical) based at St. Mary’s Hospital Centre. This will be a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure. The Department of Medicine is a recognized leader in academic medicine. Our educational and research missions support excellent and innovative clinical programs across our teaching hospitals. St. Mary’s Hospital Center is one of McGill’s major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec. It is a community hospital with an important teaching mandate for trainees in multiple disciplines.

Requirements

  • Hold an MD degree and be eligible for licensure in the province of Québec.
  • Completed specialty training in General Internal Medicine and subspecialty training in Rheumatology.
  • Certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent).
  • Certified by the Collège des médecins du Québec.
  • Completed, or currently enrolled in, at least one additional year of clinical and/or research training, preferably in Medical Education, with a demonstrated commitment to pursuing an academic career focused on teaching.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in English and French, or a commitment to acquiring the language skills necessary to practice medicine in Québec; candidates must be able to interact effectively in both languages with patients, families, and health‑care professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical practice in the Department of Medicine, Division of Rheumatology at St. Mary’s Hospital Centre.
  • Teaching the next generation of physicians, including both didactic and clinical teaching.
  • Rheumatology consult service.
  • Weekly outpatient clinic at the Lakeshore General Hospital.
  • Assume a leadership role in overseeing teaching at both the hospital and Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux (CIUSSS) levels.
  • Play an active role in the organization, coordination, and ongoing enhancement of the quality of teaching for medical students and postgraduate medical trainees from Internal Medicine, General Internal Medicine, and Family Medicine programs.
  • Foster and promote clinical innovation within the Division of Rheumatology.
  • Contribute to clinical research and quality improvement initiatives aimed at advancing medical practice at St. Mary’s Hospital Centre.
  • Be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e. research, teaching, supervision of graduate students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees).
  • Contribute to service activities within their units, the University and the wider scholarly community.
  • Foster and promote a demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
