About The Position

The McGill University Department of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time position as a Clinician-Teacher at the rank of Assistant Professor (Clinical) based at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure. The Department of Medicine within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is a leader in academic medicine. Our educational and research missions support excellence and innovative clinical programs across the network of teaching hospitals. The McGill University Health Centre is one of McGill’s major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec. The successful candidate will join the Geriatrics group, which consists of 11 full-time academic geriatricians and a Family Medicine member.

Requirements

  • Hold an MD degree
  • Have completed specialty training in Geriatric Medicine
  • Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent)
  • Be eligible for licensure in Quebec and hold certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec
  • Have completed, or intend to complete at least one additional year of clinical and/or research training or hold a MSc or PhD degree in a domain pertaining to aging and geriatrics
  • Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills at the level needed to practice medicine in Quebec.
  • Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families, and health care professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching activity will include both didactic and clinical teaching.
  • The clinical responsibilities of the candidate will be primarily based at the Lachine hospital site (at least 50% of the time) and include working as the consultant geriatrician on the inpatient units, with possibilities to expand consultation services to the emergency room and developing outpatient clinical activities.
  • The candidate will also have the option of working at the other adult sites (Royal Victoria Hospital, Montreal General Hospital) in both inpatient and outpatient settings and is expected to take evening and weekend on call duties in Geriatric Medicine across all the adult sites of the MUHC.
  • The incumbent will also be expected to be actively involved in relevant aspects of McGill’s academic mission (e.g., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents and involvement in academic and administrative committees).
  • McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community.
