About The Position

Northeastern University's College of Science is seeking applications for tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in Chemistry and Chemical Biology and/or Biology, beginning in the 2027-2028 or 2028-2029 academic year. This search is particularly interested in candidates with expertise in Physical AI, Robotics & Autonomous Systems for Chemistry and Biology. This includes areas like intelligent infrastructure, adaptive construction/manufacturing robotics using digital twins and multi-agent controls, embodied and wearable AI systems, and automated self-driving laboratories that integrate hardware with active-learning machine learning for accelerated experimentation in chemistry, materials, and biomanufacturing. Primary appointments will be in Boston, with potential for joint appointments in the College of Engineering and Khoury College of Computer Sciences. Successful candidates will have opportunities to collaborate across disciplines and will be supported by Northeastern's strong faculty development programs, including mentoring teams and a focus on collaborative research. Requirements

PhD in chemistry, biology, engineering or related fields by the employment start date.

Responsibilities

Develop vigorous research programs that cross-cut the fields of automated/self-driving labs for chemistry and biology.
Develop independent research programs that attract external funding.
Teach courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Mentor students and postdocs in their area of research.
Participate in service to the department, university, and discipline.
Work with global student populations.
