About The Position

This position involves designing and executing complex quantitative analyses, including formulating analytical hypotheses, sample size projections, choosing methodologies, computing, and preparing manuscripts. The role also includes teaching biostatistics or data science courses to support departmental graduate programs. The Assistant Professor will provide statistical or data science support services to UTMB faculty, staff, and students, develop new quantitative methods, and plan, direct, and report statistical analyses of research data. Responsibilities also include developing and adapting innovative methodologies for biomedical studies, designing and implementing analyses of biomedical databases, and outlining experimental designs with sample size projections. The position requires developing methodology grant proposals, collaborating with investigators on grant development (including study design and the analytical portion of grant proposals), and writing methodology sections of manuscripts, addressing reviewer comments. Collaboration with biostatistics faculty for publishing methodology manuscripts is also expected. The role involves teaching short courses and regular graduate-level courses, providing sound statistical practice, and demonstrating excellent communication and interpersonal skills with professionalism and competence in dealing with diverse individuals. The ability to communicate information to non-statisticians and adherence to internal controls are essential.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree (PhD or DrPH) in biostatistics, statistics, health informatics, or computer science
  • At least 3 years of related experience
  • Personal computer skills
  • Proficiency in computing, including knowledge of statistical packages such as SAS, SPSS, R, Python, or SQL
  • Familiarity with database management
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good organization skills
  • Knowledge of statistical and scientific research design
  • Knowledge of data files handling techniques

Nice To Haves

  • Six years of related experience in Biostatistics, health informatics, or data science in the healthcare field.

Responsibilities
