About The Position

The Department of Neurology at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking to recruit a dynamic candidate to expand its clinical and/or basic science research programs within its Neuromuscular Section. This is a full-time faculty position with the opportunity for academic promotion, determined by demonstrated excellence in education, research, clinical care, and community service. The department is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Neuromuscular section currently comprises 6 MDs, 4 APPs (2 Physician Assistants and 2 Genetic Counselors), and an ACGME neuromuscular fellow. Job duties will include clinical, teaching, research, and service responsibilities, with the allocation of time and effort determined by the Section Head. The Neuromuscular multidisciplinary clinic is a highly recognized regional referral center for an eleven-state area, serving ~3600 annual patient visits, ~2000 NCS/EMG studies, and ~200 muscle and nerve biopsies. The program is involved in over 60 active clinical trials and various research consortia. The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is a world-class medical destination known for transformative science, medicine, education, and patient care, encompassing health professional schools, centers, institutes, and two nationally ranked hospitals.

Requirements

  • MD or DO
  • Experience in an academic hospital setting
  • Board Certified Neurologist
  • Board Certification in Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine, or documented longstanding care or research in this field
  • A record of ongoing research activity and funding
  • A State of Colorado medical license and DEA license must be obtained on or before hire date
  • Scholarly and academic record consistent with appointment at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor level in the School of Medicine
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work independently and within diverse team structures
  • Knowledge of patient privacy rights and patient safety
  • A positive, motivated, engaged, and caring attitude
  • Outstanding clinical skills in Neurology and Neuromuscular Medicine
  • Ability to work with colleagues and patients in a professional manner
  • Dedication to professional development, teaching, and education, and to mentoring others
  • Ability to be adaptable, flexible, and creative
  • Writing skills as exemplified in scholarly work and grant applications
  • Ability and willingness to perform multiple administrative duties related to section and department function
  • Ability and willingness to lead multiple educational and administrative section meetings per month
  • Ability and willingness to recruit, work with, mentor and lead a diverse group of medical professionals

Nice To Haves

  • Neuromuscular ultrasound certification is preferred
  • Eligible to obtain other states’ unrestricted medical licenses, if necessary

Responsibilities

  • Expand clinical and/or basic science research programs within the Neuromuscular Section.
  • Perform clinical duties involving patients with neuromuscular disorders.
  • Perform electrodiagnostic studies, biopsies, and neuromuscular pathology on patients as needed and allowable.
  • Participate in a neuromuscular call rotation covering 5p-8p weeknights.
  • Participate in all administrative/didactic meetings of the neuromuscular section.
  • Perform administrative responsibilities including data entry into hospital systems, development of critical pathways, committee work, and projects aimed at improving the specialty and department mission.
  • Work toward the production of scholarship activities.
  • Attend meetings and educational events of the department and specialty programs.
  • Develop the ultrasound program, educating trainees and building and expanding the service line.
  • Involve in the teaching of students, residents, and fellows (including the neuromuscular fellow).
  • Participate in section and department-wide Quality and Performance Improvement projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned as need arises.
