About The Position

The Department of Educational Leadership, Policy and Technology Studies at The University of Alabama invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor of Instructional Technology, preferably a scholar whose research and teaching focus on the educational applications of artificial intelligence in teaching, learning, instructional design, and educational research. The Department of Educational Leadership, Policy, and Technology Studies houses a flourishing instructional technology program that offers an on-campus and an online Doctor of Philosophy in Instructional Leadership with a concentration in Instructional Technology, an online Master of Arts in Instructional Technology, an Instructional Technology Graduate Certificate and an Instructional Design and Technology Certificate at the Masters level. The program also provides service courses to multiple programs through its undergraduate offerings. A successful candidate will join five active research and teaching faculty as well as a vibrant student community. Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Learning Sciences, or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design and technology theories, principles and applications
  • Demonstrated record of scholarship
  • Demonstrated record of excellence in both online and face-to-face teaching at the postsecondary level
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with students from diverse populations
  • If applying at the Associate level, Demonstrated ability to secure external funding to support research or strong potential to do so
  • If applying at the Associate level, Demonstrated record of successfully mentoring and advising graduate students

Responsibilities

  • Pursuing a rigorous and innovative line of research, preferably focused on the pedagogical applications of AI in teaching, learning, instructional design, educational technology, and related educational contexts.
  • Supervising masters and doctoral students
  • Working with doctoral students on research activities
  • Pursuing external funding
  • Providing leadership and partnership improvements in technology initiatives across the state
  • Providing service to the department, college, university and profession
  • Designing and teaching undergraduate and graduate-level courses in instructional technology and related topics delivered in face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats
  • Chairing and serving on dissertation committees (if applying at the Associate level)
  • Assist in administration of the program (if applying at the Associate level)
