About The Position

The Department of Anthropology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, seeks a tenure track Assistant Professor in Medical Anthropology with a focus on health and well-being broadly defined, and an active research program grounded in ethnographic fieldwork. We invite applications from scholars working on a wide range of topics, including cultures of medicine, public and global health, health policy, health systems and bureaucracies, medical technologies, environmental health, and health disparities, among others. We are especially interested in scholars who bring ethnographic depth into conversation with other methodological traditions, including quantitative approaches, and who have a demonstrable commitment to interdisciplinarity, both theoretically and methodologically. The successful candidate is expected to collaborate with faculty and graduate students across subdisciplines and other academic units within the university, for example, the School of Public Health. Although geographical area is open, the successful candidate is expected to complement and expand upon existing research themes within the department. Finally, the successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in cultural, biocultural, and medical anthropology, and will be responsible for developing an upper-division course in the anthropology of health and well-being.

Requirements

Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology or a related field from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
Must be prepared to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses.
ABD candidates will be considered.
Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.
Candidate must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in cultural, biocultural, and medical anthropology.
