About The Position

The Zimmerman School of Advertising & Mass Communications at the University of South Florida is seeking two tenure-track Assistant Professors in Advertising. These are nine-month, full-time positions starting August 7, 2027, with negotiable salary. The ideal candidates will be outstanding scholars and instructors with innovative research agendas in advertising and teaching specializations in areas such as advertising analytics, interactive advertising, advertising planning and management, or data-driven content creation. Experience with quantitative research methods, emerging technologies (like AI, social media targeting, and social listening tools such as Brandwatch), or relevant professional/industry experience is advantageous. The school is located in Florida's top media market and offers students unique learning experiences with hands-on training. The Tampa Bay region provides strong industry connections, offering opportunities for faculty research, applied projects, and community engagement. Students benefit from state-of-the-art facilities, including a virtual production studio, and produce content for broadcast and a student-run agency. Graduate students focus on research and professional projects to enhance their expertise.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution (ABD candidates considered if degree completed before August 7, 2027).
  • A record of research in advertising (and/or a closely related discipline).
  • Prior teaching experience in advertising (and/or a closely related field).
  • Qualified to teach in the undergraduate Integrated Public Relations and Advertising (IPRA) program.
  • Qualified to teach in the graduate program in Advertising (M.S.).
  • Meet university criteria for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with quantitative research methods.
  • Experience with emerging technologies (e.g., artificial intelligence, social media targeting, and social listening tools such as Brandwatch).
  • Relevant professional or industry experience.
  • Established record of, or strong potential for, securing external research funding.
  • Relevant professional experience and work with advertising analytics, social media, data-driven content creation, or emerging technologies (e.g., social listening tools such as Brandwatch, artificial intelligence, etc.).
  • Relevant advertising industry experience (e.g., agency, in-house, consulting, or freelance work in areas such as advertising strategy, creative development, branding, campaign development, media, or client services).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research in advertising and closely related disciplines.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in advertising.
  • Contribute to the research culture of The Zimmerman School.
  • Potentially build industry partnerships and engage community partners.
  • Bring current professional perspectives into the classroom.
