About The Position

The Department of Accounting & Finance in the Lucas College of Business at San José State University is seeking an Assistant Professor of Accounting to begin in August 2027. The successful candidate will teach a range of accounting courses, including financial, managerial, analytics, or internal audit, within undergraduate, MS Accounting Analytics, or MBA programs. Responsibilities include engaging in research for respected accounting journals and contributing to service at the department, college, or university levels. The department focuses on teaching undergraduate coursework in finance, accounting, and tax with a technological emphasis and encourages cross-discipline research. It houses Master of Science degrees in Accounting Analytics and Financial Analytics, and includes centers of excellence such as the Center for Banking and Financial Services, the Accounting Advancement Center, and the High Technology Tax Institute. Requirements

• Ph.D. in Accounting by start of appointment
• Scholarly Academic qualification under AACSB standards
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a socially and economically diverse student population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience.

Nice To Haves

• Professional experience in corporate accounting or assurance
• Professional designations such as Certified Public Accountant
• Excellent teaching experience at the university level

Responsibilities

• Teach broadly in accounting coursework, which may include financial, managerial, analytics, or internal audit courses in our undergraduate, MS Accounting Analytics, or MBA programs.
• Engage in research targeted to highly respected accounting journals.
• Participate in service at department, college, or university levels.
• Teaching assignments are at both the graduate and undergraduate levels in traditional and accelerated formats.
• Actively engaged in scholarly activities conducting research, developing grants, presenting professional papers, and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
• Participate in shared governance, usually in department, college, and university committees and other service assignments.
• Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
• Demonstrate awareness and experience in understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation – through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
• Comply with requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
• Complete Clery Act training and immediately report Clery incidents to the institution.
• Complete CSU employee training as assigned and required based on their role (e.g., Data Security, FERPA, Preventing Discrimination and Harassment, Title IX, Health and Safety).
• Comply with safety measures that decrease the likelihood of COVID-19 transmission or illness.
