About The Position

The Assistant Production Supervisor is responsible for stepping in for the Production Supervisor as needed, working all production lines, and assisting and training Line Operators and Operator Trainees. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, quality, and efficient production. The Assistant Production Supervisor acts as a direct extension of Shift Supervision and works closely with the management team to ensure operational goals are met.

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondences.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
• Ability to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Must be certified to operate a forklift.

Responsibilities

• Replace the Supervisor for vacations and PTO days.
• Conduct oneself in a manner that represents management as a direct extension of Shift supervision.
• Drive home the importance of safety and ensure compliance with the lock out tag out program.
• Fill in for the Operator or Operator Trainee for vacations and absences to avoid overtime.
• Maintain a safe working environment within the department, including all Thermoforming lines and auxiliary equipment.
• Ensure the importance of a quality product being produced on all production lines and assist Line Operators.
• Know the quality specifications for the product being produced and communicate with Line Operators regarding quality issues.
• Ensure the importance of housekeeping and assist the Supervisor in enforcing this policy.
• Communicate necessary information daily from supervision to maintain department productivity.
• Communicate with the oncoming shift in verbal and written form.
• Complete all shift paperwork required when acting as Supervisor, including daily production reports, material inventories, and other required reports.
• Assist fellow operators with their paperwork and train them on proper completion.
• Train new operators, emphasizing safety and lock out tag out procedures, producing high-quality products efficiently and at the lowest cost.
• Monitor production rates (CPM) for all products and maintain standard levels.
• Monitor waste and develop plans to reduce scrap.
• Demonstrate knowledge of resins, additives, packaging, labeling, and code dating of products.
• Provide direction for producing products with the correct materials.
• Monitor lines to provide direction in keeping filters clean, oilers filled, and silicone tanks properly mixed and filled.
• Troubleshoot issues related to line performance and train new operators to do the same.
• Direct Operators, Packers, and Utilities for efficient utilization.
• Work with maintenance on troubleshooting line issues and changeovers.
• Assist maintenance with machine repairs if possible.
• Prepare for startups after changeovers by procuring the correct setup sheet, setting the line to the setup sheet, gapping the die and chrome rolls, and performing other startup tasks.
• Manage the unloading of railcars for rapid turnover.
• Perform any other job duty assigned by the Supervisor that directly affects a production line and can be reasonably performed safely.
• Comply with all facility safety rules and regulations.
• Report any unsafe practices and/or conditions to their supervisor.
• Maintain floor safety discipline by interceding with employees engaged in rule violations or unsafe activities.
• Communicate to management employees who persist in safety rule violations.
• Wear required personal protective equipment properly and report defective PPE.
• Report all near misses, accidents, injuries, or illnesses, including Muscular Skeletal symptoms or disorders.
• Follow established lock out/tag out procedures.
• Support 6’s initiatives.
• Work in and around grinder areas.
