Assistant Production Manager
About The Position
We are looking for an Experienced Assistant Production Manager who will be primarily responsible for assisting the breeder manager in directing and coordinating breeding operations, and ensuring the delivery of a quality product. This role involves overseeing and managing assigned breeder operations, ensuring the availability of required quantity and quality of hatch eggs for hatcheries, and managing all breeder producer relationships and associated goods and services. The Assistant Production Manager will implement and monitor pullet and breeder production programs, train and develop Breeder Representatives and Technicians, and provide communication and direction for contract growers. Responsibilities also include monitoring pullet placements, moves, vaccinations, hatch egg numbers, flock health, and adherence to blood testing procedures. The role requires providing performance and cost data to accounting and management, maintaining growing and flock agreements, and leading in a manner consistent with company values and strategic objectives, ensuring compliance with Animal Welfare, Safety, and Environmental regulations.
Requirements
- Associate’s Degree in Poultry Science, Agricultural Science or related field from an accredited institution OR 4 years equivalent education and experience
- Minimum 4 years’ poultry breeder operational experience
- Minimum 4 years’ supervisory experience within a similar environment
- Advanced poultry science knowledge
- Demonstrated high level of initiative and ownership of projects
- Ability to confront and manage through conflict situations with employees and contractors
- High work capacity, dependable, results oriented and strong sense of urgency
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills
- Demonstrated success building effective teams with proven ability to lead by engaging and motivating a team and influencing an organization
- Highly effective interpersonal communication skills sufficient to communicate and interact effectively with all levels within organization
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge of math functions and skills
- Solid computer skills particularly with MS Office programs
- Advanced organizational skills, with attention to detail
- Demonstrated sound work ethic, honesty and moral character
Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage assigned breeder operations
- Ensuring required quantity and quality of hatch eggs are available for hatcheries
- Oversee all Breeder Producer relationships and all goods and services associated with their needs
- Implement and monitor all pullet and breeder production programs
- Ensure the training of development of all Breeder Representatives and Technicians
- Provide communication and direction for contract growers
- Monitor development of contract growers
- Monitor pullet placements, moves, vaccinations and ensure hatch egg numbers
- Provide performance and cost numbers to accounting and management
- Monitor pullet and breeder flock health and adherence to blood testing procedures
- Maintain pullet growing agreements and breeder flock agreements
- Lead and manage in a way consistent with company’s values and strategic objectives
- Ensure compliance with company policies and regulations (i.e. Animal Welfare, Safety, Environmental, etc.)
