About The Position

Tallahassee State College (TSC) is seeking an Assistant Production Coordinator to join their College of Communications and Humanities, Theatre Program. This full-time position involves technical work in the operation and supervision of the auditorium, focusing on innovation in set construction, technical operation of lighting and sound systems, equipment maintenance, and safety operations. The role serves as a primary contact in the absence of the Production Coordinator, evaluates technical riders, and manages shop and crew operations.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience in technical theater productions and/or scene shop supervision.
  • Required job duties are normally inside and require essential physical abilities such as lifting, carrying, pushing more than 50 pounds; walking standing; bending; stooping; good vision and hearing; reaching above shoulders; working with chemicals; etc.
  • Leadership, Communication, and Organization skills

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre or a related field

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the primary contact in the absence of the Production Coordinator and answers technical questions about running an event and scheduling events.
  • Evaluates technical riders and set-up requests.
  • Serves as the primary shop and crew manager and supervises all phases of set and scenery construction, including basic painting skills, surface prep, base coating, and some faux finishing.
  • Supervises all phases of lighting, including load-in and basic lighting console programming and provides basic electrical knowledge.
  • Supervises basic audio video practices, including mixing consoles, video projectors, microphones, and cabling practices and uses the computer to accomplish tasks as related to audio and video programs.
  • Supervises technical rehearsals, run of production, and clearing of stage.
  • Creates and reads construction drawings using computer software.
  • Maintains shop tools, inventory, and housekeeping.
  • Maintains auditorium equipment including sound, lights, audiovisual and computers.
  • Serves as the designer for sound, lights, and props as needed.
  • Works with outside events managers, crews and other college personnel and college functions in a professional manner.
  • Drives TSC vehicles, such as the operation of a 1 ton dump truck with manual transmission to transport productions equipment as needed.
  • Performs other duties as needed.
