The Assistant Produce Manager is responsible for promoting excellent customer relations by instilling positive customer-focused behavior with associates. This role involves greeting customers, answering questions, and resolving issues promptly and professionally. The position focuses on continuous improvement within the department, taking customer orders, and ensuring the quality of fresh merchandise through proper handling techniques. The Assistant Produce Manager assists the Produce Manager in daily operations, including merchandising, ad execution, associate engagement, and customer service. They also perform the duties of the Produce Manager in their absence, develop merchandising plans to meet financial goals, and stay knowledgeable about weekly ads and specials to ensure correct pricing and production amounts. This role requires continuous learning about produce merchandise and adherence to production log policies. The Assistant Produce Manager oversees department inventories, tracks sales reports, product orders, and supplies, and assists with scheduling, training, rewarding, and delegating tasks to associates. They manage inventory levels, review orders to meet customer demand, maintain backroom organization, and oversee shelf replenishment. The role involves checking deliveries and invoices, potentially unloading merchandise, and enforcing receiving, dating, and restocking procedures. They monitor product quality and freshness, break down deliveries, control department expenses, and ensure associates follow company recipes for prepared products. Maintaining freshness by removing out-of-code products and completing product logs are key responsibilities. The department must be kept well-stocked and appealing. The Assistant Produce Manager handles special requests, unpacks merchandise, cleans and trims produce, stocks new merchandise, ensures saleable condition through stock rotation, and verifies correct pricing and signage. They maintain the salad bar and cut fruit/vegetables, assist in building displays, and accurately complete product logs. Handling spoiled, damaged, new, and discontinued items according to policy, maintaining backroom and receiving area security, and ensuring general sanitation in the department are also crucial. This includes following cleaning schedules and department guidelines to meet health and OSHA requirements, and proper trash disposal. The role may involve assisting with baling cardboard and other related duties if trained. Cooperation with co-workers and superiors is expected to ensure the smooth function of the department and store, with a focus on continuous improvement of job performance and utilization of company-provided Personal Protected Equipment (PPE). The Assistant Produce Manager may also be called upon to assist in other departments.
