About The Position

The Assistant Produce Manager supports the Produce Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the Produce Department. This position helps ensure high-quality product presentation, exceptional customer service, food safety compliance, inventory control, and department profitability. The Assistant Produce Manager assists with leading and developing associates while maintaining fresh, appealing displays that drive sales and enhance the customer experience.

Requirements

  • Previous produce, grocery, retail, or related experience required.
  • Knowledge of fresh produce handling, merchandising, and inventory management.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing the daily operation of the Produce Department.
  • Ensure produce displays are fully stocked, visually appealing, and maintained throughout the day.
  • Monitor product quality, freshness, rotation, and proper inventory levels.
  • Support department merchandising plans, promotional programs, and seasonal displays.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe department environment.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service and create a positive shopping experience.
  • Assist customers with product selection, preparation suggestions, and special requests.
  • Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Promote a customer-focused culture among department associates.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
  • Monitor proper storage, handling, rotation, and temperature control procedures.
  • Maintain department standards for freshness, quality, and cleanliness.
  • Support department readiness for inspections, audits, and operational reviews.
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, and inventory management.
  • Help control shrink, spoilage, and department expenses.
  • Monitor product movement and adjust inventory levels as needed.
  • Support achievement of sales, margin, and profitability goals.
  • Analyze department performance and assist in implementing improvement strategies.
  • Assist in training, coaching, and developing produce associates.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment.
  • Help coordinate schedules and daily work assignments.
  • Provide feedback and support associate development efforts.
  • Assume department leadership responsibilities when the Produce Manager is absent.
  • Ensure attractive, abundant, and well-maintained produce displays.
  • Maintain proper signage and pricing accuracy.
  • Monitor seasonal opportunities and market trends.
  • Support initiatives that drive customer engagement and sales growth.
