About The Position

Under the supervision of the junior/senior high school principal, the assistant principal will oversee the supervision of students in the goal of maintaining an educationally sound, intellectually safe, and emotionally supportive learning environment. The assistant principal will identify students with behavioral, social, and economic barriers to their engagement with school offerings and programs. This work will be in conjunction with students, families, teachers, and Main Office staff to remove barriers and provide opportunities for maximizing student engagement with school.

Requirements

  • Master’s or actively pursuing degree in school leadership with certification in K-12 administration (or be eligible for).
  • Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience, preferably at the secondary level.
  • Knowledge of current academic, behavior, and social-emotional interventions, including SEL, Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS), and MTSS frameworks.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and organizational detail.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and evaluate job-relevant data in support of students.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and personalities, including educators, support staff, families, and community partners.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and prompt written communication skills, with the ability to engage, update, and inform various school partners.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to proactively influence the decision-making of others in support of an inclusive school environment aligned with school and district goals.
  • Data Analysis: Proficiency in collecting, tracking, and analyzing data to inform decision-making and support student outcomes.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills to manage multiple responsibilities and projects effectively without losing personal connection in task-oriented moments.
  • Fingerprinted and passing a criminal records review.

Responsibilities

  • Hold all students to the standards outlined in the Student Code of Conduct, ensuring reinforcement of these expectations is aligned with promoting a positive school environment via our system of behavior reinforcement and support.
  • Respond to office referrals and serve as the initial lead in all Tier I and Tier II behavior issues, assigning behavioral reinforcement accordingly.
  • Identify opportunities for restoring relationships via appropriate Student Support Team staff, leveraging restorative practices.
  • Provide input prior to Student Support Team (SST) / Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) team meetings with pertinent behavior and attendance reports, identifying students needing additional support.
  • Monitor and communicate the regular and punctual attendance of students through reinforcing attendance expectations outlined in the Student Handbook; provide reinforcement and the removal of barriers for students to be in-person and on campus for learning and extracurricular opportunities.
  • Communicate efforts around progress monitoring for student behavior, attendance, and social concerns with the junior/senior high school principal, SST/MTSS, and other relevant school colleagues.
  • Supervise and enhance our system for positive student recognition around behavioral expectations, collaborating with teacher-leaders and the building principal for implementation.
  • Serve as the building test coordinator, ensuring compliance with all national and state-mandated tests, develop and maintain a testing calendar, assign staff to test proctoring responsibilities, collaborate with the Educational Support and Intervention (ESI) team around accommodated testing needs, and communicate with internal and external partners accordingly.
  • Oversee the building supervising team, ensuring seamless operations of the school day while maintaining a high level of campus safety and security; implement a system of in-school suspension, before/after school detention, and school supervision (including during lunch periods).
  • Maintain a high level of visibility in common areas (hallways, entry/exit to building, and in the cafeteria) to engage with students, staff, and guests on our campus.
  • In conjunction with the junior/senior high school principal and athletic director, establish a supervision schedule of home athletic contests and major school events, including attendance at all home varsity football and Friday evening varsity girls and boys basketball games, the Holiday Dance, Prom, Graduation, 7-8 dances, and other home and away events as needed.
  • In collaboration with Athletic Director, supervise the student section during athletic events, serving as a liaison between our student section and the principal and Athletic Director for alignment between behavioral expectations; enhance our student section organization and spirit through identifying student leaders, developing positive and appropriate cheers, and coordinate with the athletic teams, band, and cheer team for coherence in athletic event support.
  • Check-in with all Guest Teachers during the school day, ensuring all lesson plans and learning materials are provided, and daily operation of the school day are understood; coordinate with administrative assistant to the principal for guest teacher coverage.
  • Attend and participate in Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings and attend assigned PLC sessions to monitor, support, and facilitate dialogue, planning and actions related to school and district continuous improvement goals.
  • Supervise all virtual class programming, collaborating with Guidance Counselor ensuring alignment between student Individualized Development Plans (IDPs) and class assignment; monitor student progress through virtual course offerings to monitor on-time completion of virtual classes with two-way communication reporting to SCS Pupil Accountant.
  • Attend and participate in all staff meetings, assisting with the planning of agenda items and delivery of professional learning.
  • Provide feedback to junior/senior high school principal of any exemplars of instructional excellence.
  • Work collaboratively with and report to Athletic Director and junior/senior high school principal for holistic accountability and enforcement of both the Student Handbook and the Student-Athlete Code of Conduct.
  • Provide behavior data reports to junior/senior high school principal on a monthly basis with updates to school staff every six weeks, and an annual evaluation of behavior patterns, programs, and interventions at the end of the school year.
  • Complete annual School Infrastructure Database (SID) report before reviewed by junior/senior high school principal.
  • Maintain a system of tracking and monitoring student attendance, communicating with parents/guardians, pertinent school staff, and - as necessary - the truancy officer.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the junior/senior high school principal.
