About The Position

Buffalo Public Schools (BPS) is undergoing a transformation to improve its schools and prepare students for success in college or careers. The district is seeking motivated individuals for leadership roles across its 59 schools and Central Office to support the academic, emotional, and physical needs of approximately 34,000 students. The Superintendent is leading a team to achieve world-class status for BPS and ensure all students are prepared for success.

Requirements

  • Hold a Master’s degree.
  • Hold a New York State School District Administrator (SDA), New York State School Supervisor (SAS), School Building Leader (SBL), or Administrator certificate by the time of application.

  • Have a minimum of five years of certificated teaching and/or appropriate and approved Supervisory experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Assistant Principal or administrative experience in an urban school district or in a district with an urban population.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Principal in developing and maintaining clear lines of communication and collaboration between staff, administrators, students, and parents.
  • Creating and communicating a Comprehensive Education Plan aligned with the District’s vision and goals.
  • Developing, overseeing, and achieving objectives to ensure a focus on student achievement and a highly effective learning climate.
  • Gathering, analyzing, and disaggregating data for informed instructional improvements.
  • Coordinating the school’s staff development program for all faculty and staff.
  • Overseeing all aspects of developmentally appropriate curriculum and implementation (development, delivery, and evaluation).
  • Conducting classroom observations and evaluations of teachers.
  • Working effectively with all teachers to foster their professional growth and performance.
  • Working collaboratively with the Department of Curriculum, Assessment & Instruction to implement all necessary and required District plans.
  • Fostering a positive school climate where student discipline concerns are addressed in a manner that promotes student responsibility and mutual respect.
  • Demonstrating continuous improvement of professional knowledge and skills.
  • Representing the school at conferences and/or district meetings.
  • Conducting faculty and grade level meetings.
  • Formalizing building operational procedures.
  • Coordinating the planning, preparation, and dissemination of the school’s master schedule for faculty and staff assignments.
  • Ensuring adherence to legal concepts, state and federal regulations, and Board of Education policies.
  • Implementing and monitoring approved school budget expenditures, including student activity funds, grants, and general accounts.
  • Monitoring building maintenance and improvements.
  • Developing and communicating a plan addressing building safety and conducting a planned fire drill.
  • Submitting accurate reports to Central Office when requested in a timely manner.
  • Exhibiting strategies that promote the understanding, sensitivity, and respect of multicultural and ethnic diversity.
  • Establishing and facilitating a Site-Based Management Team that meets regularly.
  • Collaborating with universities, colleges, school-based partnerships, and agencies to develop and implement programs that enhance student achievement within district contractual guidelines.
  • Organizing and supporting programs for Student Orientation, Open House, Curriculum Nights, Parent/Teacher Conferences, Parent/Student Evening Activities, etc.
  • Maintaining positive and effective relationships with all organizations and committees involved within the building (School-Based Management Team, Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), partnerships, businesses, etc.).
  • Collaborating and leading other school-based instructional meetings and teams.
  • Collaborating with parents and staff to implement and monitor parent engagement activities to increase academic achievement.
