About The Position

This position supports the building principal in the leadership, management, and supervision of the daily operations of Caledonia High School to ensure the education process is meeting the needs of all students. The assistant principal will support efforts to improve student achievement, monitor and evaluate instruction, and support teachers in improving instructional practices. In addition, the Assistant Principal will lead, manage, and supervise extracurricular programs.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in education with an emphasis on curriculum development, educational leadership, or a related field.
  • Michigan Administrative Certification is required
  • A minimum of five to seven years of progressively more responsibility or expansive experience in an educational setting is required.
  • Candidates must be able to demonstrate three to five years of supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience using best teaching practices, and standards-based assessment
  • Thorough knowledge of school policies and procedures
  • Strong strategic visioning skills
  • Ability to perform highly complex and technical tasks
  • Ability to function in a culturally diverse, fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of organizational and management practices as applied to the analysis and evaluation of school programs, policies, and operational needs
  • Strong conflict resolution skills
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Knowledge of effective instructional strategies for students with varied abilities
  • Knowledge of pertinent federal, state, and local laws, policies, rules, and regulations as it relates to school administration

Responsibilities

  • Identifies and coordinates the educational needs of regular and special education programs to ensure maximum educational benefits
  • Participate as the lead learner in professional development by preparing agendas, actively engaging, facilitating, and reflecting on learning
  • Assist the Principal in leading and implementing instructional programs in coordination with the Office of Teaching and Learning
  • Evaluates instructional programs to ensure student achievement and successful execution
  • Collect and provide data on the effectiveness and performance of programs implemented in the school.
  • Make decisions based on the best interests of students first with the highest level of professional ethics possible.
  • Maintains a positive working relationship with all building stakeholders and acts as a problem-solver when concerns arise
  • Maintains relationships with parents and other community organizations to ensure two-way communication which fosters parent and community involvement
  • Connect positively, professionally, and constructively with students and families.
  • Develops an atmosphere of trust, respect, interest, and enthusiasm within the school
  • Assist the Principal in maintaining a positive climate and culture that ensures students and staff feel safe to learn
  • Must be actively involved in the building Professional Learning Communities
  • Adheres to all district policies and administrative guidelines
  • Support the principal during the interview and selection process of building staff
  • Supervise and evaluate building staff
  • Develop, monitor, and enforce school rules aligned with district safety and security policies and protocols
  • Addresses behavioral issues until resolved in a satisfactory manner
  • Encourage ethical practices of teachers
  • Provides leadership and direction to staff concerning the ongoing evaluation and improvement of educational programming, co-curricular activities, and extra-curricular activities including athletics
  • Manages employees and students in the school.
  • Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the school and personnel.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities following the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, recommendations for hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Serve on district-wide committees as needed
  • Keep the principal fully informed of significant matters impacting the administration of the school and consult freely with him/her concerning such matters
  • Establish an open line of communication with the building stakeholders
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Executive Director of Student Achievement
  • Assist the principal with the leadership, organization, and management of afterschool activities programs, including athletics.
