About The Position
The Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing public charter schools with over 20 years of experience, dedicated to academic excellence, equity, and college-preparatory rigor for students in Title I communities across Arizona. AMS Camelback specifically aims to provide a rigorous academic environment supported by strong instructional systems, high expectations, and continuous improvement. Assistant Principals at AMS are crucial instructional leaders responsible for developing teachers, strengthening classroom instruction, and ensuring an exceptional educational experience for students. The Assistant Principal at AMS Camelback holds a critical leadership role in fostering academic achievement and maintaining a structured, achievement-oriented school culture. This position primarily focuses on instructional coaching, teacher development, and data-driven academic improvement for K–8 classrooms. The Assistant Principal collaborates closely with the Principal and the instructional leadership team to enhance teaching practices, analyze student performance data, and ensure high-quality instruction aligns with AMS academic standards. The ideal candidate will be a strong instructional leader with prior K–8 core academic teaching experience in a Title I environment, coupled with proven success in teacher leadership, instructional coaching, and classroom supervision. This role requires a passionate leader committed to educator development, improving student outcomes, and sustaining a positive, high-expectations school environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- Minimum 3 years of successful teaching experience in K–8 core academic subjects (ELA, Math, or self-contained elementary)
- Experience working in Title I or high-need school environments
- Demonstrated teacher leadership experience, such as: Grade-level or team lead, Department chair, Instructional committee leadership, Mentor teacher
- Experience providing instructional coaching or supporting teacher supervision
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Experience using student achievement data to inform instructional decisions
- Commitment to serving students in historically underserved communities
Nice To Haves
- Master’s degree in Education or Educational Leadership
- Bilingual (Spanish-English)
- Experience supporting instructional coaching across multiple grade levels (K–8)
- Experience working in charter schools or high-performing school networks
- Arizona Principal Certification or eligibility
Responsibilities
- Support implementation of rigorous instruction aligned with AMS curriculum and academic standards
- Conduct regular classroom observations and provide actionable feedback to teachers
- Support teachers in strengthening instructional practices in core academic subjects including ELA and Mathematics
- Promote strong instructional practices that improve student academic outcomes
- Provide ongoing instructional coaching and mentorship to teachers
- Support teacher growth through observation, feedback cycles, modeling, and professional development
- Facilitate professional learning aligned with school academic priorities
- Support teacher evaluation processes in collaboration with school leadership
- Analyze student achievement data to identify instructional trends and priorities
- Lead or support data meetings to develop targeted instructional action plans
- Monitor academic progress and support teachers in implementing interventions
- Promote a structured and achievement-focused school culture grounded in high expectations
- Support systems that reinforce positive student behavior and engagement
- Collaborate with staff to ensure students receive strong academic and behavioral support
- Work closely with the Principal and campus leadership team to implement school-wide initiatives
- Support operational responsibilities including testing coordination, scheduling, and compliance
- Participate in leadership meetings and network professional development
