About The Position

The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Assistant Principal, Secondary Counseling Services (APSCS) to collaborate with the principal to lead the students, staff, and community at Business and Entrepreneurship Virtual Academy (BEVA) towards building paths to graduation, academic excellence, and success beyond secondary school. Business and Entrepreneurship Virtual Academy (BEVA) is an LAUSD K–12 virtual independent study school serving approximately 600 students across Los Angeles. BEVA provides synchronous and asynchronous instruction within a personalized virtual learning environment. Our focus is student achievement, engagement, graduation, college and career readiness, and ensuring all students feel connected to their school community.

Requirements

  • A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential; applicants who do not possess a valid California Administrative Services Credential may be eligible to participate in the LAUSD Preliminary Administrative Services Credential Intern Program designed specifically for the APSCS position
  • A valid Pupil Personnel Services Credential
  • A Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • District Master Plan requirements
  • Multicultural coursework (Candidates have one year to complete this requirement)
  • For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program. Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
  • Five years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
  • No fewer than two years of successful experience in a middle/senior high school counseling office

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the principal to lead students, staff, and community towards building paths to graduation, academic excellence, and success beyond secondary school.
  • Develop and implement a student-centered master schedule that creates clear pathways for students, expands access to Dual Enrollment and other college and career opportunities, and keeps students on track for graduation.
  • Work with counselors, teachers, families, and support staff to address attendance, participation, academic concerns, credit recovery, and students who are becoming disconnected from school.
  • Build strong systems of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
