About The Position

The Assistant Principal/Athletics Director provides administrative leadership and support to the Principal in the overall operation, supervision, and improvement of the high school. The position assists in establishing and maintaining a safe, inclusive, equitable, and academically focused school environment; supports instructional leadership and staff development; supervises and evaluates assigned personnel; manages student behavior and discipline; coordinates school operations and activities; and ensures compliance with district, state, federal, OSAA, conference, and Board policies and regulations. As Athletics Director, the position provides leadership, organization, and oversight of the high school athletic program, including scheduling, personnel, facilities, transportation, budgeting, eligibility, event management, safety, compliance, and communication with students, families, coaches, staff, administrators, community partners, and athletic organizations. The Assistant Principal/Athletics Director works collaboratively with the Principal, district administrators, teachers, coaches, classified staff, students, families, and community partners to promote student achievement, student well-being, positive school culture, and effective school operations.

Requirements

Master's degree from an accredited college or university required.
Valid Oregon Administrative License appropriate for the position.
Valid Oregon driver's license and evidence of insurability.
Successful completion of required Oregon fingerprinting and criminal records/background clearance.
Current certifications and training required by the district, OSAA, state, or other applicable regulatory organizations.
Ability to obtain and maintain all required athletic, safety, first aid, CPR, concussion, and other certifications required for the position.
Successful experience in school administration, athletic administration, coaching, or a related educational leadership role.
Demonstrated experience supervising and evaluating personnel.
Demonstrated experience managing complex programs, schedules, budgets, facilities, and multiple competing priorities.
Experience working collaboratively with staff, students, families, administrators, and community partners.
Experience with high school athletics and knowledge of OSAA and conference requirements.

Responsibilities

Supports the Principal in the administration, supervision, and daily operation of the high school.
Assists in implementing and enforcing federal, state, district, and school policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
Provides leadership in establishing and maintaining a safe, orderly, inclusive, and supportive school environment.
Supports instructional leadership by monitoring implementation of curriculum, instructional practices, assessment, intervention, and student support systems.
Supervises, evaluates, and supports assigned licensed and classified personnel in accordance with district procedures and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
Provides coaching, feedback, professional learning, and performance support to assigned staff.
Responds to student behavior, attendance, safety, and disciplinary concerns using district policies, restorative practices, progressive discipline, and applicable legal requirements.
Facilitates communication among students, staff, families, administrators, and community partners for the purpose of resolving concerns, coordinating services, and supporting student success.
Investigates and responds to student, parent, employee, and school concerns within the scope of assigned authority and in accordance with district procedures.

Assist the Principal with the overall administration and operation of the high school.
Support implementation of the district's strategic priorities, school improvement plans, instructional initiatives, and student achievement goals.
Monitor school-wide systems and practices to support student achievement, engagement, attendance, behavior, and belonging.
Collaborate with teachers, counselors, specialists, and administrators to identify student needs and coordinate appropriate interventions and supports.
Support implementation of curriculum, instructional programs, assessment practices, and academic intervention systems.
Participate in classroom observations, instructional walkthroughs, staff meetings, professional learning, and other activities that support instructional improvement.
Provide feedback and coaching to assigned staff and participate in formal evaluation processes consistent with district expectations and collective bargaining agreements.
Assist in developing master schedules, supervision assignments, staff assignments, and other school-wide organizational structures as assigned.
Use relevant school and student data to identify trends, evaluate effectiveness, and support continuous improvement.
Establish and maintain expectations for student behavior consistent with district policy, school procedures, and applicable law.
Investigate and respond to student disciplinary matters, including incidents involving harassment, bullying, intimidation, discrimination, threats, fighting, substance use, weapons, attendance, and other violations of school or district expectations.
Apply disciplinary consequences consistently, fairly, and in accordance with district policy, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and legal requirements.
Use restorative practices and other appropriate interventions to support student accountability, repair harm, and develop positive decision-making and interpersonal skills.
Collaborate with counselors, teachers, families, student services personnel, and outside agencies to address barriers to student success.
Respond to student safety concerns and coordinate appropriate interventions and notifications.
Support attendance improvement efforts and participate in interventions for students with chronic absenteeism.
Communicate with parents and guardians regarding student behavior, attendance, academic concerns, and school expectations.
Maintain appropriate documentation of disciplinary actions, investigations, interventions, and communications.

Ensure athletic programs operate in accordance with Board policy, district procedures, OSAA rules and regulations, conference requirements, and applicable state and federal law.
Advise administrators, coaches, students, and families regarding athletic policies, eligibility requirements, schedules, procedures, and expectations.
Collaborate with the District Athletic Director and District Title IX Officer to monitor athletic programs for compliance, equity, participation opportunities, facilities, equipment, and resource allocation.
Apply the district equity lens when making decisions related to athletic participation, staffing, facilities, scheduling, equipment, funding, and access.
Coordinate pre-season meetings and required compliance activities for coaches and athletic programs.
Develop and maintain procedures for athletic participation, eligibility, supervision, transportation, contest management, emergency response, and communication.
Coordinate athletic banquets, booster club meetings, special events, recognition activities, and other athletic department functions.
Serve as a liaison between the school, district, coaches, students, families, community organizations, conference representatives, OSAA, and other athletic partners.
Coordinate schedules for athletic contests, tournaments, playoffs, practices, and post-season events.
Coordinate officials, contest workers, event supervisors, security, medical personnel, transportation, facilities, and other event resources.
Coordinate with coaches and school administrators regarding game schedules, officials' assignments, and contest requirements.
Arrange and confirm appropriate athletic facilities for practices, competitions, tournaments, and post-season events.
Inspect or coordinate inspection of playing facilities and athletic venues to ensure appropriate readiness and safety.
Coordinate preparation, supervision, and cleanup of athletic facilities before and after contests.
Coordinate gate operations, ticketing, admissions, change funds, gatekeepers, and other contest-related procedures.
Coordinate security and crowd-management plans with school administrators, law enforcement agencies, contracted security providers, and other appropriate personnel.
Coordinate responses to weather, facility, transportation, or other conditions that require postponement, cancellation, relocation, or modification of athletic events.
Coordinate transportation for athletic activities in accordance with district transportation procedures.
Coordinate tournament and post-season logistics with participating schools, conference representatives, OSAA, and other appropriate organizations.
Maintain accurate records of athletic events, schedules, officials, contest workers, transportation, and related activities.
Promote the health, safety, welfare, and academic success of student-athletes.
Establish and communicate expectations for student-athlete conduct, participation, eligibility, and sportsmanship.
Coordinate procedures for verifying student eligibility prior to participation in athletic activities.
Monitor compliance with academic, attendance, transfer, age, participation, and other eligibility requirements.
Coordinate with counselors, registrars, coaches, administrators, and families regarding student-athlete eligibility and support needs.
Respond to concerns involving student-athlete conduct, safety, participation, or welfare.
Promote positive sportsmanship and appropriate conduct by student-athletes, coaches, staff, families, and spectators.
Recruit, recommend, assign, supervise, and evaluate coaches and other athletic personnel in accordance with district procedures.
Establish clear expectations for coaching responsibilities, supervision, communication, student safety, and compliance.
Coordinate required coach training, professional development, clinics, workshops, certifications, and compliance activities.
Monitor coach compliance with district, OSAA, conference, and school requirements.
Provide coaching, feedback, and support to athletic personnel.
Address coaching performance and conduct concerns in consultation with the Principal and Human Resources when appropriate.
Maintain appropriate records related to athletic personnel assignments, evaluations, training, certifications, and compliance.
Coordinate the acquisition, distribution, maintenance, storage, inventory, and disposal of athletic equipment and supplies.
Ensure athletic equipment and facilities are maintained in safe and appropriate condition.
Coordinate with district maintenance, operations, transportation, and other departments regarding athletic facility needs.
Maintain accurate inventories and records of athletic equipment and supplies.
Coordinate the purchase and allocation of athletic equipment and resources in accordance with district purchasing procedures and applicable equity and Title IX requirements.
Identify facility, equipment, and program needs and communicate recommendations to district leadership.
Develop, monitor, and manage the assigned athletics budget in accordance with district budget procedures.
Monitor expenditures, purchase orders, invoices, contracts, and other financial transactions.
Ensure athletic expenditures are consistent with approved budgets, district purchasing requirements, and applicable policies.
Assist with developing annual athletic program budget priorities and recommendations.
Monitor fundraising, booster club, activity account, and other athletic-related financial activities as assigned.
Maintain accurate financial records and provide required reports to district administration.
Implement and monitor compliance with Board policies, district procedures, OSAA regulations, conference requirements, and applicable federal and state laws governing athletics.
Maintain current knowledge of OSAA, conference, Title IX, student safety, eligibility, transportation, and other requirements affecting athletic programs.
Compile, maintain, and submit required athletic reports, records, forms, certifications, and documentation.
Maintain accurate records of athletic schedules, eligibility, personnel, facilities, equipment, budgets, events, and compliance activities.
Participate in athletic program reviews, audits, and compliance reviews.
Report significant athletic program concerns, incidents, safety issues, or compliance matters to the Principal and appropriate district administrators.
Collaborate with the District Athletic Director and other district departments to ensure consistent district-wide athletic practices.
Serve as a primary point of contact for students, families, coaches, staff, administrators, conference representatives, and community partners regarding high school athletics.
Communicate athletic schedules, expectations, policies, changes, cancellations, and other information in a timely and accessible manner.
Respond professionally to concerns and complaints related to athletics and coordinate appropriate follow-up.
Develop positive relationships with families, booster organizations, community partners, and participating schools.
