About The Position

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: Must safely set up and operate the machine to acquire quality product at the desired target speed of each run. SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITY: Reviews job ticket instructions to determine printing specifications, machine set up procedures, and supplies needed Follows all instructions issued on the job ticket advising the supervisor of any incorrect or non-recorded information necessary for proper set up and operation Stages correct stock and make ready materials for the next scheduled job at the feeder prior to the completion of the job in progress Loads feeder and checks sheets for all defects Responsible for the setup and operation of the feeder, assists press operators in the setup of the press Assist in the washing up of press, cleaning wash up trays, and properly disposing of waste materials as needed Assist press operators in all maintenance issues as required, reports any suspected problems to press operators Ability to perform the Second Press operator’s position in their absence Maintains a sufficient amount of supplies at the press to produce each job and assures sufficient quantities are available at shift change Must possess professional appearance and mannerisms with the ability to positively interact and represent the company to customers during press checks Communicates with other team members Wears appropriate PPE for the task and the area. Welcomes updates and improvements to processes and follows new procedures and innovations, which would add to the efficiency and safety of the operation Performs work in a manner that keeps down time to a minimum Maintains a clean work environment in accordance with Food Safety and 5S systems Follows all safety related policies, rules, regulations, technical instructions, and guidelines. Use situational awareness and identify unsafe behaviors and conditions May be asked to help with duties in other areas or departments Performs other duties as assigned Effectively utilize any machine downtime (not including approved breaks) by assisting with set-up or performing other tasks associated with maintaining a clean work environment or as otherwise instructed by a supervisor Occasionally the Assistant Press Operator will be asked to perform a different job, or be temporarily placed in a different department based on production needs AUTHORITY: In the absence of the Second Press Operator, the Press Feeder must have the ability to lead a crew that has been placed with them to execute the demands of the printing operation efficiently and to respond to oral instructions from his/her supervisor and other written instructions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to utilize software.
  • Mechanical ability and skills.
  • Ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English.
  • Ability to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide both fractions and decimals, solve equations, read a tape measure, and have an understanding of both standard and metric measuring systems.
  • Regular attendance and reporting for work on time.
  • Availability for overtime work if necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the setup and operation of the feeder, assist press operators in the setup of the press.
  • Assist in the washing up of press, cleaning wash up trays, and properly disposing of waste materials as needed.
  • Assist press operators in all maintenance issues as required, report any suspected problems to press operators.
  • Ability to perform the Second Press operator’s position in their absence.
  • Maintain a sufficient amount of supplies at the press to produce each job and assure sufficient quantities are available at shift change.
  • Possess professional appearance and mannerisms with the ability to positively interact and represent the company to customers during press checks.
