About The Position

The Assistant Teacher is responsible for the direct supervision, teaching, and safety of children at all times, under the guidance of the Program Coordinator and Head Teacher. This role requires the ability to implement quality, developmentally age-appropriate children's programs and to participate as a member of a team. The goal is to create a warm and nurturing environment that ensures the safety and well-being of each child while emphasizing program excellence. Employment is contingent upon meeting NYS Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) licensing requirements, including fingerprinting, background screening, and clearances from the State Central Register (SCR) and Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCL) within the first 30 days of employment. An initial medical statement and tuberculin test are also required prior to assignment.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
High school diploma.
Some experience working with children.
Completion of an initial medical statement and tuberculin test providing satisfactory evidence of physical fitness for child day care.
Undergo fingerprint and background screening as mandated by the NYS OCFS within the first 30 days of employment.
Obtain clearance on the State Central Register (SCR) and Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCL) within the first 30 days of employment.
Must obtain a copy of High School Diploma or official transcript(s) and copy of College Diploma(s) if applicable.
Must complete online Bloodborne Pathogens, Employee Safety and Youth Protection Series trainings prior to initial assignment to position.
Must complete online Hazard Communication training within the first 90 days of employment.
Must complete a minimum of thirty (30) hours of training every two years, with fifteen (15) hours received during the first six months of employment.

Serve as a role model for parents, volunteers, children, and other staff members.
Participate in recommended training programs, staff meetings, and in-service sessions.
Report to working area at scheduled time.
