About The Position

The Assistant Port Engineer I plays an important role in keeping our marine operations running smoothly and safely. Supporting the Port Engineer and Maintenance Manager, this position helps maintain vessels and equipment to ensure exceptional guest experiences on the water. This is a hands-on, entry-level technical role ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving, learning, and working in a dynamic marine environment.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of diesel and gas internal combustion engines.
  • Foundational knowledge of plumbing, AC/DC electrical systems, and vehicle maintenance.
  • Basic fabrication and carpentry skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, especially for parts and record-keeping tasks.
  • Ability to learn quickly and take direction in a team environment.
  • Problem-solving mindset with a proactive approach to maintenance.
  • Ability to operate small heavy equipment required to maintain fleet and land facilities.
  • Good communication skills and a collaborative attitude.
  • Commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
  • Physical ability to climb ladders, crawl, kneel, bend, twist at the waist, and stand on uneven surfaces.
  • Must be able to push, pull, carry and lift objects weighing up to 100 pounds with on a regular basis.
  • Enter and operate in confined spaces.
  • Operate power tools.
  • Operate in environment with breathing apparatus.
  • Operate company vehicles.
  • Able to obtain a DOT Medical Card.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with marine propulsion and control systems is an asset.
  • Technical training or certification in marine, automotive, or a related field is an asset.
  • Previous hands-on experience with engines, mechanical systems, or maintenance work preferred.
  • Basic parts inventory experience.
  • Experience in hospitality, tourism, or attractions environments is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Port Engineer and Captain(s) to conduct maintenance activities on company vessels and vehicles.
  • Thoroughly document all activities as required, creating a functional recordkeeping history such as Helm Connect and Limbl.
  • Assist the Port Engineer and Captain(s) with providing service to the boat and vehicle fleet, with long term guest safety, comfort, and costs in mind.
  • Assist the Port Engineer and/or Transportation Coordinator to help ensure vessels and vehicles are maintained within applicable US Coast Guard and US Department of Transportation standards.
  • Responsible for the Phoenix Avenue warehouse including petroleum storage, tool storage, and general security.
  • Coordinate with Boat Captains, Land Facilities Maintenance Technician and Transportation Coordinator to ensure prompt and proper disposal of all waste products, including but not limited to used oil collection.
  • Responsible for the operation of the new and used oil collection and distribution program. This includes vessel oil sampling, conducting vessel and vehicle oil changes, and maintaining adequate filter inventory.
  • Coordinate with the Land Facilities Maintenance Technician to ensure that the Phoenix Avenue warehouse is maintained with safety and functionality in mind.
  • Assists Port Engineer to manage parts inventory, tracking, and organizing supplies.
  • Assist with land facilities maintenance as required.
