About The Position

As the Assistant Plant Manager, you will work directly with the Plant Manager to direct a management and employee team in the safe operation and maintenance of a combined cycle power plant, providing support to the Plant Manager in the leadership and direction to an operations and maintenance staff. This role involves owning certain tasks and processes and supporting others on an evolving basis as the needs of the plant dictate. This position reports to the Plant Manager .

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of thermal power generation experience with 5 years directly related to the supervision of power plant operations, maintenance, or engineering teams
  • Advanced management work experience and training
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite programs
  • High school degree or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science degree in either engineering or other technical discipline; equivalent experience may substitute for formal degree.
  • Experience with overall budget management and accountability for results. This would include tracking tasks such as approvals and accruals.
  • Experience with gas turbine and steam turbine systems is preferred.
  • Ability to handle daily communication of expectations, coach employees, provide feedback to develop plant staff.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to manage and motivate employees and use verbal and written communication to communicate objectives and action plans.
  • High degree of flexibility and the capacity to work in a rapidly changing and ambiguous environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the generation of routine records and reports required to meet all plant obligations.
  • Ensure O&M Staff have the necessary knowledge and equipment to maintain compliance with all applicable laws, prudent business practices and in accordance with all power sales agreements.
  • Maintain and grow an atmosphere of employee involvement, trust, and motivation through employee participation, empowerment, work teams, and multi-skilling.
  • Strengthen and support a culture which is flexible, adaptable and which strives for continuous improvement in the accomplishment of work
  • Assist in the development of the annual O&M and capital budgets.
  • Manage expenditures within the limits of approved plans and budgets.
  • Work with the Plant Manager and project Asset Manager (Chicago based) regarding project contracts, market strategies and overall financial performance of the plant.
  • Assist in the preparation of major maintenance activities, planning, budgeting, and execution to produce the minimum life cycle cost while achieving maximum equipment performance and reliability.
  • Ensure the necessary training and career development materials are available for all site personnel.
  • Actively participate and take a leadership role in civic activities.
