About The Position

Manage current plant manufacturing operations in steel fabrication, rotocast, manufacturing engineering and assembly. Improve manufacturing business processes, tools, and metrics to positively impact inventory accuracy and controls, workflows, and production to meet customer demand. The Assistant Plant Manager will assist the Plant Manager in all phases of plant operations, including fabrication, rotocast, manufacturing engineering and assembly, quality control, maintenance, shipping/receiving, and supply chain. This role is directly responsible for the daily operations of steel fabrication, rotocast, and assembly, ensuring production requirements are met and safety protocols are followed while delivering high levels of product quality. The position involves measuring production efficiency, schedule attainment, inventory controls, and other performance metrics, and devising and implementing strategic improvements. Collaboration with various teams, leading new product development implementation, and managing engineering changes and capital improvements are key aspects of the role. Additionally, the Assistant Plant Manager will mentor and develop staff, foster a positive working environment, and act as a change agent. Improving the cost of products and operations by reducing waste and inefficiencies, creating tools and reports for teams, and presenting progress reports to management are also essential duties. The role requires an understanding of manufacturing operations' impact on the financial environment and adherence to the Company's code of ethics.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field.
  • A minimum of seven years of plant management experience (preferably with similar products used by Scotsman Ice Systems) is required.
  • Prior management experience required.
  • Proficient in Excel, MRP.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills with a proven ability to create and maintain positive working relationships with suppliers, customers, employees, and agents.
  • Must be team player – regular collaboration with employees on plant floor required, ability to jump in and help, and not supervise from a distance.
  • Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail; must be able to build/develop Excel worksheets utilizing ERP data with goal toward implementation.
  • Must be able to regularly walk entire facility.
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to work at a computer for long periods of time.
  • Must have own transportation and qualify to work legally in the United States.

  • Fabrication and assembly for foodservice equipment highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and develop staff, fostering a positive working environment that encourages continuous learning, teamwork, and growth opportunities.
  • Demonstrate ability as a change agent both as strategic thinker and hands-on leader.
  • Improve cost of products and operations by implementing measure to reduce waste and inefficiencies.
  • Create tools, reports, and metrics for area teams to sustain success.
  • Support department staff with analysis and tools for better results.
  • Present progress reports to plant management teams and corporate management teams, and integrate feedback.
  • Optimize processes for resources, cycle time, and daily performance.
  • Establish metrics for daily Gemba review.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
