About The Position

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, University of Chicago Medicine, as an Assistant Patient Care Manager in the Comer Emergency Department. The Assistant Patient Care Manager (RN) will be a crucial part of the Comer ED. As a Level 1 Trauma Center, the University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children's Hospital provides immediate, highly specialized pediatric emergency services, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Comer Emergency Department is a 21-bed, Level 1 Pediatric Academic Trauma Center dedicated to providing high-quality, evidence-based care to the children of South Side of Chicago and beyond. With 2 trauma bays, 1 special procedures room and a dedicated resuscitation bay, we are equipped to handle the most critical situations. We are proud to be recognized as an exemplary pediatric emergency department, having received the Emergency Nurses Association’s prestigious Lantern Award for 2024-2027. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area. The Assistant Patient Care Manager (APCM) will be responsible and accountable for over-seeing the operations and patient flow of a designated Care Center on her/his respective shift. Duties include completing daily or shift specific quality audits and Managing for Daily Improvement (MDI) boards, facilitate daily huddles with staff, and directing delivery of quality, patient-centered care in a financially responsible manner. This is in collaboration with and under the supervision of the Patient Care Manager (PCM). In the absence of the PCM, the APCM assumes responsibility for the unit. APCM supports PCM with 24/7 coverage of the unit.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an NLN accredited School of Nursing.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or higher.
  • Minimum of two years nursing experience.
  • Minimum of one year clinical experience in the area they are applying.
  • Charge nurse experience with demonstrated leadership skills required and/or equivalent experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Specialty certifications preferred.
  • Experience working at an academic medical center and in a unionized environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists & collaborates with the PCMs in supporting changes, new and existing programs with staff input and feedback.
  • Assist in development of goals that are consistent with department goals and Hospitals’ mission.
  • Assists & collaborates in utilizing appropriate resources and departments to facilitate operations.
  • Active participation in committee work and task force assignments on as needed bases.
  • Identifies issues, presents strategies and acts as a change agent to resolve patient care issues.
