About The Position

The Assistant Patient Care Manager works under the direction of the Patient Care Manager/Director. Collaborates with administrative staff, nursing, physicians, and other patient care team personnel to support standards for professional nursing practice. The Assistant Patient Care Manager demonstrates clinical expertise and serves as a clinical resource to staff. They assume responsibility/accountability for daily operations, including planning, organizing, and supervising care to ensure patient safety and quality. This role involves selecting, motivating, and retaining staff, facilitating department staff meetings and trainings, and participating in activities that promote personal and professional development. The Assistant Patient Care Manager serves on hospital and/or unit-based councils, takes an active role in department performance improvement initiatives related to Quality, Safety, and Patient Experience, and leads and mentors staff in these initiatives. They promote an environment that fosters inquiry, creative thought, nursing education programs, and the development and application of evidence-based practice initiatives. Additionally, this role reviews staff performance, completes annual evaluations, assures staff competency, and initiates remedial actions when appropriate. The Assistant Patient Care Manager acts as a liaison with Clinical Risk Management and participates in event reviews, action planning, and resolution of complaints and grievances. They maintain appropriate, timely, and effective communication with patients, families, the multi-disciplinary team, ancillary departments, and the manager to identify and resolve problems that may interfere with positive patient outcomes. The role also involves maintaining departmental records for administrative and regulatory purposes.

Requirements

  • Registered Professional Nurse with current license to practice in the state of Pennsylvania or New Jersey (based upon work location).
  • BLS required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred. Required within 5 years of obtaining position.
  • Two years of direct clinical experience preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
