About The Position

Hightop Hospitality is seeking an Assistant Pastry Chef to join their St. Paul catering division. This role involves preparing and baking a variety of scratch-made pastries, desserts, and baked goods, including cakes, macarons, profiteroles, tartlets, dessert shooters, and biscuits. The position is hands-on and fast-paced, requiring consistency, organization, and a strong attention to craft. The Assistant Pastry Chef will work behind the scenes to support events, build foundational pastry skills in a high-volume professional kitchen, and collaborate with the culinary and events teams. The role is year-round with increased hours during the peak event season (May-early November), with a set schedule of approximately 3 days per week, typically starting early morning and running through daytime hours. Regular availability on Fridays and Saturdays during peak season is required.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of pastry or baking experience preferred
  • Basic understanding of baking fundamentals and kitchen techniques
  • Ability to read and follow recipes accurately
  • Strong attention to detail and consistency
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented
  • Availability for early mornings, weekdays, and weekends
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and bake a variety of scratch-made pastries, desserts, and baked goods
  • Assist with production of cakes, fillings, frostings, and plated desserts
  • Follow recipes with precision and assist with scaling and batch production
  • Maintain consistency and high-quality presentation standards
  • Support ingredient prep, portioning, and inventory organization
  • Help with packaging, labeling, and preparing orders for events
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and food-safe kitchen environment
  • Collaborate with culinary and events teams to execute production timelines
