About The Position

The purpose of this position is to assist and perform intermediate-level work in the operations and oversight of a section of the City’s parks and recreation system including tasks such as maintenance, recreational programming and services, and revenue collections of assigned areas. This class works under general supervision, assisting in the development of work methods and sequences.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • 6 months of experience in parks and recreation or related field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
  • CPR/First Aid Certifications (or must obtain within 6-month probationary period and remain valid throughout employment)

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) from the Florida Parks & Recreation Association.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the supervision, direction, and evaluation of assigned part-time staff.
  • Assists in planning, directing and implementing a broad and varied program of parks and recreation activities and services to meet the needs of the public to include children ages 3 – 18, adult and senior programming.
  • Assists in the planning, organizing, supervision, and implementation of programs and specialized recreation activities and special events, including leisure activities, arts and crafts, special needs programs, festivals, concerts, fairs, athletic leagues, tournaments, fitness programs, after school programs, dances, clinics, summer day camps, etc.
  • Provides input in the preparation of the annual budget for assigned programs for parks and recreation for review by supervisor.
  • Assists in supervising the work of subordinate personnel engaged in recreational programming, security and maintenance services.
  • Collects revenues from recreational programs, activities, special events and admissions; reports the progress and potential of revenue production through investigations or special studies.
  • Explains and interprets rules and regulations, fees and charges, and recreational operations to park patrons; enforces or refers enforcement to proper authorities.
  • Conducts periodic inspections of all park areas and facilities; observes efficiencies in operation, safety and condition; prepares verbal and written communications to correct deficiencies.
  • Prepares and maintains various operational reports on attendance, inventory, revenues and related information.
  • Processing requisitions for materials and supplies for park operations and maintenance; maintains revenue records; assists with park expenditures and submits all for review to management
  • Meets with organized groups, individuals, or other interested parties to provide information, assesses community-wide program needs and interests, formulates new programs, and furthers public relations for the City.
  • May occasionally operate up to a 15-passenger city vehicle for the transportation of program participants.
  • Interacts and communicates with a variety of groups and individuals including department and City staff, community groups, volunteers, senior citizens, special needs population and the general public
  • Ensures the safety of all program, activity and event participants and providers by following City policies and procedures and monitoring participants' activity
  • Monitors recreation facilities to ensure security, proper working order of equipment, cleanliness of area and other potential maintenance hazards
  • Greets visitors to the office and recreational facilities
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment; requisitions supplies and equipment as necessary
  • Assists in planning and monitoring programs for all ages.
