About The Position

Under the general direction of the Park Manager, aids in planning, directing, and coordinating the operation and management of State Parks, and performs related work as required. This role assures a safe, well-maintained park facility through the efforts of a properly supervised and trained staff. It provides an efficient operation that stays within budget constraints and assures fiscal control and accountability. The position also focuses on park visitor services and promotes usage through positive community relations, developing local partnerships and volunteer programs, and strategic marketing efforts. Additionally, it assumes natural resource protection and environmental education as a manager of park operations and visitor programming. The role involves analyzing financial information and operational requirements to plan, prepare, and manage the park’s operating budget.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Public Administration, Park Administration or Management, Criminal Justice, Natural Resource Management or a closely related field; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one (1) year of experience in Park Management or Operations, Business Administration, Building and Grounds Maintenance, General Construction, or Natural Resource Management or Operations for a maximum of ninety (90) semester hours of the required education.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of park management and business administration.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of personnel and financial management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of marketing and advertising methods and principles.
  • Familiarity with general construction methods and maintenance procedures.
  • Familiarity with laws, rules and regulations concerning the operation of State Parks, contracts, purchases of State equipment and supplies and property management.
  • Ability to use basic computer applications such as Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel and SharePoint and perform basic computer tasks such printing, scanning and electronic filing.
  • Ability to follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to give clear instruction and communication both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience supervising a team.
  • Demonstrated time management and leadership ability.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
