About The Position

Abilene Christian University (ACU) is seeking a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Education for its School of Education. This full-time, 9-month position begins August 2027. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing effective educators, collaborating with colleagues, fostering relationships with schools and teachers, and demonstrating potential for scholarship and professional service. The role involves teaching early literacy education courses, working with practicum students and clinical teachers, building relationships with public schools, and contributing to the School of Education's mission. The School of Education is accredited by AAQEP and focuses on preparing reflective, responsive, aware, and critical teachers.

Requirements

• An earned doctorate from an accredited institution in literacy education or a related field conferred no later than August 2027 or significant progress toward the terminal degree.
• A minimum of three years of K-12 teaching experience.
• A record of, or evidence of potential for, scholarly productivity.
• A demonstrated commitment to equity-oriented, culturally responsive/sustaining, and/or antiracist teaching frameworks.
• Commitment to and experience in collaborative professional practice.
• Evidence of professional and institutional service in K-12 and/or higher education.
• Must be a professing Christian and an active, faithful member of a congregation of the Churches of Christ.
• Must be willing to support the Christian mission and purpose of the university.

Responsibilities

• Teach course(s) in early literacy education and potentially other areas of expertise.
• Work with practicum students and clinical teachers.
• Build relationships with public schools.
• Participate and contribute to the School of Education’s mission.
• Actively participate in continued shared processes of alignment and revision of the literacy sequence.
• Collaborate with colleagues in the department.
• Foster strong relationships with schools and classroom teachers.
• Demonstrate strong potential for continued scholarship and professional service in the field of education.
