About The Position

Abilene Christian University's School of Education is seeking a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Education. This full-time, 9-month appointment begins August 2027. The ideal candidate will contribute to preparing effective educators, collaborate with departmental colleagues, build relationships with schools and teachers, and demonstrate potential for scholarly and professional growth. The role involves teaching early literacy education courses, supervising practicum students and clinical teachers, fostering school partnerships, and advancing the School of Education's mission to prepare exemplary educators for diverse communities. The university is a private, Research 2 institution with approximately 7,000 students, recognized for service learning and learning communities. The School of Education, accredited by AAQEP, offers degree programs for elementary, middle grades, and secondary teachers, emphasizing reflective, responsive, aware, and critical teacher preparation.

Requirements

  • An earned doctorate from an accredited institution in literacy education or a related field conferred no later than August 2027 or significant progress toward the terminal degree.
  • A minimum of three years of K-12 teaching experience
  • A record of, or evidence of potential for, scholarly productivity
  • A demonstrated commitment to equity-oriented, culturally responsive/sustaining, and/or antiracist teaching frameworks.
  • Commitment to and experience in collaborative professional practice.
  • Evidence of professional and institutional service in K-12 and/or higher education
  • Must be a professing Christian
  • Must be an active, faithful member of a congregation of the Churches of Christ
  • Must be willing to support the Christian mission and purpose of the university

Responsibilities

  • Prepare effective educators
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the department
  • Foster strong relationships with schools and classroom teachers
  • Teach course(s) in early literacy education and potentially other areas of expertise
  • Work with practicum students and clinical teachers
  • Build relationships with public schools
  • Participate and contribute to the School of Education’s mission
  • Actively participate in continued shared processes of alignment and revision of the literacy sequence
